Thoughts after the first Discipleship Explored session
This Monday just passed, we started running a Discipleship Explored course. I’m helping lead one of the discussion groups and it’s a really interesting (focused on the book of Philippians) and an interesting group of people. I think there was a bit of that “first day at school” nerves and I was certainly trying not to dominate and encourage others to talk. I think I mostly did that well and helped “poke” people a bit to engage with the topics. One issue I felt was that the questions were a bit to closed — you couldn’t really add your thoughts on. It led to people saying “Well, I guess the answer is X” rather than “it says the answer is X, and…[personal story/disagreement/extra thought]. I hope this is just something from the first session but I’ll do a better job of preparing some follow ups if someone does give the book answer straight away. It’s been interesting for me diving in to running an activity like this at my church that I’ve been attending just for a couple of months now. I still am getting to know everyone here, and yet I’m helping run a discussion group in a position of some influence. I’ve been amazed at how positively everyone has responded to that and how easy it has been for me. I’m really grateful to God for that. I’d welcome your prayers for the attendees, we’ve had extra people sign up on the day and they really seem to be eager to get the most out of it.
